Accounting and Bookkeeping Team Member

We are seeking an organized, structured and detail-oriented team member to lead our Finance & Accounting function at TEDxMontreal!! If you love ideas and want to join us in shining the light on the incredible talent in Montréal, than we want to meet you!

You will be responsible for maintaining our books and account bank statements, processing relevant purchase orders, filing taxes and related financial information in the appropriate folders or spreadsheets, and supporting the TEDxMontreal team in their work to deliver a high-quality event that is on-budget.

As a part of the TEDxMontreal Team, the ideal candidate possesses a deep personal interest in the innovations that are being created in our effervescent and unique city. Sparking interest in learning and spreading homegrown ideas are the essence of our event.


Key responsibilities:

  1. Maintain our Registered Non-Profit status and our NEQ registration with the provincial government
  2. Manage our annual or quarterly tax filings for both federal and provincial governments
  3. Create, track and pay purchase orders (POs) and bank balances
  4. Ensure we are managing the GST/PST balances (deductions) with our revenues and expenses
  5. Manage our legal bookkeeping with our law firm (who has us as their pro-bono client) and our accounting firm (who specializes in non-profits)
  6. Keep all items properly filed, organized and archived and be ready to provide all material in the event of audit
  7. Being a key member of the TEDxMontreal organizing committee
  8. Performing other related duties as needed and assigned


The skills we’re looking for:

  1. Business acumen and interest in accounting and bookkeeping
  2. Detail-oriented and structured approach to managing financial data
  3. Strongly organized and diligent about time management
  4. An excellent problem solver with a consistent, efficient approach
  5. Clear communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Demonstrated integrity and honesty
  7. Bilingual (English & French)
  8. Shows a keen interest in innovative ideas and TED’s core mission of spreading innovative ideas
  9. Positive and motivated team player
  10. Experience with Google Docs, Google Hangouts, Trello, Doodle in addition to MS Office or iWorks software
  11. Love for TED!

Please note: the majority of the team’s meetings take place online with Google Hangout on a weekly basis. The candidate must also be available for face-to-face meetings in Montreal. This includes being available for an in-person interview.
